Purpose

Presently in Ghana, there is an on-going transformation and changes happening on the construction front which is characterized by the development of new projects (from high rise buildings, ultra-modern office complexes, affordable housing), construction of new connecting roads (intra & intercity construction) and other municipal projects coupled with the unbridled acquisition of land and property for real estate. This lucidly provides the evidence about the expansion rate and growth of the building and construction industry despite the other challenges that plague the sector (inflation, supply of materials, competition market economic forces, etc.).

Yet in the wake of all the following, it is also identifiable the level of present executions within the industry particularly pertaining to the construction of buildings, and roads which is not up to global best practices or industry guidelines. More in support, the 2016 Ghana Infrastructure Report card launched by Ghana Institute of Engineers (GhIE) which covered three sectors, namely Roads & bridges which was rated D3, Portable water also rated D, and Electric Power was giving D2. A cumulative score of D2 was awarded in total. D3 being the least mark in the three-tier marking scheme.’
